Warren County Army veteran Mark Butler, a Fairfax County Police Officer, sat down this week with Royal Examiner Editor Norma Jean Shaw to discuss his campaign for the 2019 Warren County Sheriff’s race. He was the first of three candidates to announce, after Sheriff Daniel McEathron announced he would retire at the end of this term, on December 31 of this year. McEathron moved his retirement up to May 1 of this year and has been on leave since shortly after he was named as a defendant in a $17.6 million civil suit on March 26.

Poe was the second candidate to announce a bid for the sheriff’s seat. A third candidate, independent, Mickey Licklider, announced his campaign late last summer; he plans to sit down with Royal Examiner’s request for an interview next week.
Butler, Poe and Licklider have agreed to participate in debates later this year.
